The Children’s Garden

The concept of the Children’s Aid Society’s Children’s Garden grew out of a vision shared by staff and board members of creating a space that would honor our legacy and the children we serve. The garden area in front of The Nicarry Center, home to our administrative offices as well as being a center for providing services, was a natural fit. This area was modestly landscaped and served as a pleasant street front but it was not interactive or engaging.

The Children’s Garden now provides a peaceful place for children and parents to spend a minute or two as they arrive at The Nicarry Center for therapy, parent support groups, or to receive clothing from God’s Closet. It also provides visitors to the center with an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and reflect on the history of our community. An area set off to one side includes a small waterfall and is designed for children to explore and play.

The Children’s Garden represents 101 years of protecting children and strengthening families. It also represents the future of continuing our service to children and families. The Children’s Garden has taken shape during Children’s Aid Society’s observation of its centennial as a living testimony to the families who have been a part of our history. Each stone and structure represents a child who has received help, a parent who has been supported, a volunteer who has given time, or a donor who believes in our mission.

This physical representation of the people and work of Children’s Aid Society has taken shape. The Children’s Garden was dedicated on July 19, 2014.  We have installed bushes, plants, and features including benches and small trees. Bricks ordered by supporters have been placed in the walkways. Your thoughtful gift will be represented in The Children’s Garden and will pay tribute to those you remember for many years to come. As those who will come after us walk through the garden, they will read the names of those who came before them.  To order a stone for the garden or sponsor a garden feature, please complete an Order Form and return it to us.  It takes approximately two weeks for a brick order to be completed and installed.
